“Do you want to be an artist and a writer, or a wife and a lover.? ”

Mother Artist is a year long project I am embarking on. I will be photographing and interviewing women from around the country about what it takes to be and artist and a mother. Can women really have it all? Is there a reason that men typically dominate the creative field? I will be asking these questions and more as well as photographing these women in their spaces. The project will end with the production of a finished coffee table book and gallery show.

In my opinion that’s the reason why women aren’t as successful as men in the art world. There’s plenty of talented women. Why do men take over the important positions? It’s simple. Love, family, children – a woman doesn’t want to sacrifice all of that.” -Marina Abramovic

The woman I am choosing to photograph and interview must bring something of value to the community as a whole. I aim to target women who inspire me to be better and not forget her dreams. This book will be a reflection of my own inner battles with motherhood and career balance. I hope to learn something from each woman I choose to work with. I aim to include 25 women in the book and also include more interviews and features through the website.

Through the sale of prints and merchandise on my site all of the proceeds will go towards funding this project. My financial need includes film, processing and scanning. Also travel expenses to various locations around the US to photograph and interview each woman.

The end goal is to wrap up this beautiful year long project at the end of 2017 with a finished book for sale and a gallery show in Los Angeles. I want this project to be a movement towards being excited that we as women, mothers and artists can do it all and we should celebrate it, not hide it.
